She was influenced by the multi-layered, multi-ethnic cultural feel of Los Angeles. Her vision was to develop wearable, moveable, breathable clothing for women who believe in style as well as comfort. In 1996, the first season of XCVI (which is the Roman numeral 96) was introduced from a storefront on the famed Melrose Avenue. Success was immediate. The line resonated with all types of people.
